In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, there are 80,000 children living with cerebral palsy and in need of permanent, specialized medical and therapeutic care and orthopaedic assistive devices. These functions are only possible because of the close cooperation between experts and the child, its family and caregivers. So that this cooperation works towards the child’s well-being, a “common language” must be acquired. To achieve this goal, in Germany, the scientific FocusCP conference has developed out of a merger of neuropaediatrics, paediatric orthopaedics and social paediatrics. In parallel, RehaKIND has emerged as a patient-orientated organization with the aim of providing easy access to the right care and rehabilitation for all affected children and their families. The merger of these institutions has now led to a combined conference whose success seems to lead the way into the future. The first combined FocusCP/rehaKIND meeting took place in Fürstenfeldbruck near Munich from 6 to 9 February 2019, and had 1300 participants, 150 speakers and 60 exhibitors. A great number of therapeutic, medical, and technical orthopaedic and rehabilitation experts and participants from Germany, Austria and Switzerland were brought together by the conference presidents, Prof. Florian Heinen, neuro-paediatrician from Munich, and Prof. Walter Strobl, paediatric orthopaedist from Vienna. The three-and-a-half-day programme included scientific lectures, patient- and practice-orientated meetings, as well as several workshops. In order to help the participants to keep track of all the sessions taking place, a summary of the subjects dealt with was given at the end of each day.
