In einem Mehrfirmen-Forschungsprojekt wurden funktionelle Harzformulierungen hergestellt, die als funktionelle Beschichtungen vorzugsweise für Walzenbezüge in Papiermaschinen eingesetzt werden können. Die Entwicklungen fokussierten sich primär auf die verbesserten Abstoßeigenschaften (Anti-haft) bei gleichzeitig hoher Verschleißbeständigkeit, wobei der Einfluss der unterschiedlichen Additive und Füllstoffe auf die gewünschten Eigenschaften der finalen Formulierungen bewertet wurde.
Die erforderlichen thermischen und mechanischen Eigenschaften wurden durch eine formulierte Epoxy-Matrix als Basisharz zugesichert. Als Füllstoff dienten mineralische Füllstoffe mit unterschiedlicher Härte, Korngrößenverteilung, Form und chemische Zusammensetzung sowie polymere Füllstoffe mit verbesserten Realease-Eigenschaften.
Die tribologische Charakterisierung der entwickelten Formulierungen erfolgte an einem modifizierten Stift-Scheibe Tribometer. Eine detaillierte Charakterisierung der Verschleißprozesse wurde nach der Versuchsdurchführung mittels Rasterelektronmikroskopie durchgeführt, wobei die Haupteffekte der einzelnen Additive und die resultieren Verschleißoberflächen beschrieben wurden.
Mit den optimierten Formulierungen wurden Walzenbezüge für Leitwalzen in der Trockenpartie der Papiermaschine hergestellt, die seit mehreren Monaten unter realen Betriebsbedingungen erfolgreich eingesetzt werden.
