Zahlreiche Tiere, im Meer und auf dem Land, können schwere, oftmals auch tödliche Vergiftungen beim Menschen verursachen. Dies geschieht entweder durch Injektion ihrer Gifte (Spinnen, Skorpione, Insekten und Schlangen) oder wenn sie als Nahrung dienen (Muscheln und Fische). Derartige Vergiftungen, fahrlässig, aber auch vorsätzlich (suizidal oder in Mordabsicht), spielen in der forensischen Praxis eher eine untergeordnete Rolle. Dennoch ist es notwendig, die Möglichkeiten und Grenzen zu kennen, wenn es darum geht, ein Gift und seine Herkunft durch Autopsie und/oder toxikologische Analyse zu identifizieren und gutachterlich Stellung zu nehmen. Die große strukturelle Variationsbreite und hohe Toxizität dieser Naturprodukte stellt für den forensischen Toxikologen eine Herausforderung dar. Hierbei sind Anamnese und Informationen zu den Umständen, die zur Vergiftung geführt haben, von essenzieller Bedeutung. Der vorliegende Beitrag stellt den ersten von 2 Beitragsteilen dar. Im zweiten Beitrag werden Vergiftungen durch Tiere des Festlands behandelt.
