Background
Complications arise during surgical procedures. The total number of complications can be reduced but never completely eliminated. Considering this background, it is necessary to understand the pathophysiological reasons for complications and to understand how to prevent them.
Objective
In this article, specific risk factors associated with breast surgery complications are described. The aim is for the operating surgeon to understand how to handle high-risk procedures. Furthermore, specific complications during breast surgery and sources of error are discussed. Hereby, the reader is made conscious of the possible mistakes in order to avoid and prevent as well as to manage them.
