Der klassische Begriff des Objekts zielt auf einen konkreten Gegenstand, den man durch eine begriffliche — oder durch Wahrnehmung bestimmte — Trennung von der Umgebung erkennen kann. Er geht auf Aristoteles zurück: Das Objekt existiert unabhängig von der eigenen, individuellen Beobachtung, dem eigenen Bewusstsein und sogar der eigenen Person, es wird aber erst dadurch zum Gegenstand der Seele, insofern die Seele das Vermögen hat, zu wissen.1 Deshalb gehört das Objekt nach Aristoteles nicht zu den Dingen als solchen, sondern in die Kategorie des Relationalen.2 Ein Objekt ist nur dann ein Objekt, wenn es einen Bezug auf einen Wissenden oder Erkennenden haben kann.
