Taenia and Helicobacter pylori (HP) infections are usually easy to treat. We describe the case of a teenager who had both the infections, and each resisted to the usual treatments. A 13-year-old teenager had epigastric pain with iron deficiency (anaemia) and hypereosinophilia. A first endoscopy found an HP gastritis with a white aspecific residue in duodenum. Two successive treatments with antibiotics failed. A second endoscopy showed always an HP sensitive to antibiotics, and always a white mass in the duodenum, which was found to be Taenia after consulting parasitologists. This Taenia was resistant to albendazole, niclosamide, praziquantel, and a purge with macrogol 3350. After many months of treatment, a purge with ioxitalamic acid eradicated the Taenia. Then gastritis and anaemia healed with antibiotics. To our knowledge, this is the first case that describes ioxitalamic acid efficacy to eradicate a Taenia resistant to antiparasite treatments. We suppose that Taenia is the cause of antibiotics and iron malabsorption, which would probably explain our difficulties to treat the gastritis and the anaemia.
