Bien qu’étant un organe de communication et d’échange, la peau est aussi une barrière efficace. En cas de rupture de cette barrière, de brèche, de perte de substance, la cicatrisation est indispensable et commence rapidement. La cicatrisation est le phénomène complexe qui a pour but de réparer une plaie. La peau est un modèle d’étude de la cicatrisation. Mais les mécanismes physiopathologiques sont les mêmes pour les autres tissus, quelques variantes liées au tissu concerné mises à part. La cicatrisation peut être plus ou moins « réussie », en fonction de la cause du traumatisme, de l’état nutritionnel et de maladies acquises ou génétiques. De tous temps, l’humanité a cherché comment obtenir la meilleure cicatrisation (fig. 1). Si la suture chirurgicale est le moyen le plus rapide de favoriser la cicatrisation, d’autres moyens sont disponibles.
