Beim Heißpressen von OSB werden die Holzbestandteile in den Spänen thermisch modifiziert. Aus diesem Grund wird in dieser Studie der Einfluss des Heißpressens von Hybridpappelholz auf die wasserlöslichen Extrakte untersucht. Pappelfurniere wurden auf einen Feuchtegehalt von 0 oder 8 % konditioniert und anschließend bei einer Temperatur von 150, 200 oder 250 °C heißgepresst. Mittels konventioneller chemischer Verfahren in Verbindung mit Chromatographie (HPLC und SEC), Massenspektrometrie (ESI–MS) und Spektroskopie (FTIR) wurden die wässrigen Extrakte bestimmt. Das Heißpressen bei 250 °C hatte im Vergleich zum Pressen bei niedrigeren Temperaturen einen signifikanten Einfluss auf die wasserlöslichen Fraktionen. Die Chromatographie-Ergebnisse zeigten, dass der Gehalt an wasserlöslichen Extrakten mit der Temperatur zunimmt, wohingegen der Polymerisationsgrad bei niedrigeren Temperaturen abnimmt. Die FTIR-Analyse wies auf Änderungen in der Zusammensetzung der wässrigen Extrakte der Holzmonosaccharide (Hemicellulosen) hin. Mit ESI–MS konnten Xylo-Oligosaccharide nachgewiesen werden. Die Ergebnisse zeigten deutlich, dass sich die einzelnen wasserlöslichen Extrakte durch die Hitzebehandlung stark änderten und unterschiedlich auf die jeweiligen Behandlungen reagierten.
