The majority of women are still reluctant to undergo surgery for cosmetic reasons. They fear possible complications of surgery and implants or are deterred by the costs. An external breast tissue expander (Brava®) was introduced as a nonsurgical alternative to breast augmentation. This device is based on the principle that any tissue (skin, bone, nerves, vessels, muscles) can grow if subjected to sustained gentle distraction. Several reports have confirmed that the distractive force exerted on the breast by the device can stimulate tissue growth and thereby effectively enlarge the breasts. It is a good alternative for women looking for a natural enlargement of their breasts if they fear the risks of surgery and implants. However, several factors make it difficult for the patient and physician to achieve the desired results.
