Squamous papilloma is an extremely rare benign tumor of the esophagus. We report a case in a 63-year-old woman who had no symptoms or any detectable human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. Endoscopy showed that this squamous papilloma of the esophagus was unusual in form, being marginally elevated with a slightly irregular mucosal surface, and stainable with iodine. Endoscopic mucosal resection was performed for both diagnosis and treatment. A commercial HPV detection test kit revealed no sign of any HPV infection.
