Dilger und Geyer (2007) analysieren in ihrer Publikation die Auswirkungen der Einführung der Drei-Punkte-Regel 1995/96 durch die FIFA bzw. den DFB auf die Ergebnisse der 1. Fußballbundesliga. Sie argumentieren, dass die Einführung dieser Regel u. a. zu einer Reduktion der Anzahl der Unentschieden führen müsste, da der Anreiz des Gewinnens mit der Möglichkeit, 3 anstelle von 2 Punkten zu erzielen, größer geworden sei. Zur Überprüfung betrachten sie alle n=6194 Spiele der 1. Fußballbundesliga 10 Jahre vor und 10 Jahre nach der Einführung der Drei-Punkte-Regel und finden für diesen Zeitraum einen signifikanten Unterschied (p<0,01). Sie interpretieren dies als Beleg für den Einfluss der Drei-Punkte-Regel auf das Spielergebnis.
Wir widersprechen und sind der Auffassung, dass dieses zweifelhaft ist. In dieser Replik möchten wir aufzeigen, dass die Einführung der Drei-Punkte-Regel keine bzw. keine praktisch bedeutsamen Auswirkungen auf den Anteil der unentschiedenen Spiele hat. Zu diesem Zweck wurden alle n=13.406 Spiele seit 1963/64 in die Auswertung miteinbezogen. Es zeigt sich, dass sich im 44-jährigen Bestehen der Fußballbundesliga auch unabhängig von der Einführung der Drei-Punkte-Regel Schwankungen in den Anteilen ergeben. Ein Einfluss dieser Regel auf den Anteil der Unentschieden ist im Lichte dieser Resultate nicht zu erkennen.
