Die Tuberkulose ist eine meldepflichtige Infektionskrankheit, die in der Regel durch Inhalation von Tröpfchenkernen durch das Bakterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis übertragen wird. Die Tuberkulose betrifft bevorzugt die Lunge, kann sich aber auch in jedem anderen Organ manifestieren. Die Symptomatik ist oftmals unspezifisch. Die Diagnose erfolgt mittels Anamnese sowie radiologischer und bakteriologischer Untersuchung. Bei erschwerter Probengewinnung kommen je nach Lokalisation der Tuberkulose Bronchoskopie, Thorakoskopie und auch operative Maßnahmen zum Einsatz. Die Therapie erfolgt mit mehreren antituberkulotisch wirksamen Standardmedikamenten über mindestens 6 Monate, bei Vorliegen von Medikamentenresistenzen oder Medikamentenunverträglichkeiten werden Reserveantibiotika eingesetzt. Zur Verhinderung einer Übertragung durch einen ansteckungsfähigen Patienten auf Kontaktpersonen müssen infektionsverhütende Maßnahmen ergriffen werden.
