The first fully automatic large scale mass production line for manufacturing thin film silicon PV solar module have been in operation at Ersol Thin Film GmbH since June 2007. This amorphous Silicon (a-Si) module technology (1100mm ß 1300mm) with capacity of 40MW/year is very cost-effective alternative to wafer-based solar modules which is delivered by Oerlikon Solar. The key elements for the mentioned amorphous modules are PECVD (plasma enhanced vapor deposition) KAI 1200 system for deposition of silicon, the TCO1200 (transparent conductive Oxides) for applying the transparent ZnO and several laser scribing systems (LSS1200) for structuring cell. Oerlikon has also three R&D lines in operation, where full size modules are produced on an ongoing basis for systematic efficiency and productivity improvements for our customers. Oerlikon “micro-morph” (a-Si/c-Si tandem) solar technology with targeted efficiency of >10% is next short-term milestone into pipeline. The presented article (video) will demonstrate the path of turn-key end-to-end solution: High performance manufacturing equipment and process technology of Oerlikon will allow to fully exploiting the fundamental material cost advantage of thin film Silicon technology.
