In this research, the statistical validity of subjective evaluation method for the current ISO standard wrinkle replicas has been verified using a three-dimensional image analyzing system. The result of this analysis enables us to obtain the more detailed quantitative information about the wrinkle replicas including height and frequency distribution. A new digital description method with six height and frequency parameters was derived from surface point data for the wrinkle replicas. Surface data for objective evaluation were acquired using a three-dimensional non-contact type measurement system. Statistical analyses with ANOVA tests, Turkey’s methods, and simple and multiple regression tests showed that the results from the new digital description method coincided with the conventional grade of each replica. Finally, the validity of traditional subjective evaluation method was verified objectively.
