Résumé
La prévalence de la surcharge pondérale, qui regroupe le surpoids et l’obésité, est élevée et en augmentation depuis les années 90 dans la population vivant en France. On observe cependant une tendance au ralentissement qui reste à confirmer. L’obésité concerne actuellement 9 à 17 % des adultes et 3,5 % des enfants.
Le surpoids et l’obésité sont des facteurs de risque de cancers avérés pour certaines localisations mais selon des pourcentages d’augmentation de risque différents: cancer de l’endomètre, oesophage, rein, côlon, vésicule biliaire, sein après la ménopause, pancréas, rectum. Il existe également une augmentation de risque modérée pour le myélome multiple, les leucémies et les lymphomes non hodgkiniens. Selon les études, en France, 1,4 à 3 % des cancers chez l’homme et 2,3 à 6 % chez la femme sont attribuables au surpoids et à l’obésité. Il a été estimé qu’en 2000 en France, environ 2 300 décès par cancer ont été attribuables à ces facteurs de risque (soit 1,6 % des décès par cancer).
De plus, ces deux facteurs majorent les risques de récidive, de seconds cancers et de mortalité globale ou par cancer.
Un plan obésité a été lancé en France sur la période 2010–2013 visant à réduire la prévalence de l’excès de poids et ses conséquences sur la santé.
