Im Gegensatz zur Steuerung muß eine Regelung auf Stabilität untersucht werden, weil sie durch die Rückkopplung der Regelgröße zu einem schwingungsfähigen System wird. So kann es bei falscher Anpassung des Reglers auf eine vorgegebene Strecke zu unerwünschten Schwingungen der Regelgröße oder sogar zur Instabilität kommen. Es muß daher Ziel der Stabilitätsuntersuchung sein, eine bekannte oder identifizierbare Regelstrecke mit der passenden Regeleinrichtung zu versehen und deren Parameter optimal einzustellen. Dazu wurden in Abschnitt 4.1.2 für bestimmte Regelstrecken Einstellregeln angegeben, die sich in der Praxis bewährt haben. Ist man bestrebt, zuverlässige Aussagen über die Stabilität beliebiger Regelkreise zu erzielen, sind Kenntnisse der Stabilitätskriterien unumgänglich. Der Praktiker entscheidet sich dann für ein Stabilitätskriterium, das der Problemstellung am besten angepaßt ist /18/, /43/.
