Eine Organisation ist ein komplexes System, in dem Arbeitspersonen, Arbeitsaufgaben, Arbeits- und Betriebsmittel sowie Arbeitsobjekte in vielschichtigen und dynamischen Wechselwirkungen stehen. Dieses System dient unterschiedlichen Zwecken, wie der Erfüllung von Marktaufgaben sowie der Qualifikations- und Kompetenzentwicklung der Organisationsmitglieder (siehe Kap. 2.3), und wird auf der Grundlage von objektiven und subjektiven Zielsystemen reguliert. Mit Bezug auf die Kerndefinition der Arbeitswissenschaft (LUCZAK u. VOLPERT 1987, siehe Kap. 1) sollte eine Organisation mit dem Ziel gestaltet werden, dass die Arbeitspersonen in produktiven und effizienten Arbeitsprozessen schädigungslose, ausführbare, erträgliche und beeinträchtigungsfreie Arbeitsbedingungen vorfinden, Standards sozialer Angemessenheit erfüllt sehen, Handlungsspielräume entfalten, Fähigkeiten erwerben und in Kooperation mit anderen ihre Persönlichkeit erhalten und entwickeln können.
