In this paper, a novel analog design of a triangular membership function circuit is presented with a compact structure for hardware implementations of fuzzy-neural systems. This circuit is consisted of two simple transconductors and a current mode minimization circuit, which generates a linear triangular curve by getting the minimum part of two properly set transconductors. The characteristics (width, height, slope and position) are easy to adjust. This triangular MFC was realized in 0.6μm CMOS technology and tested with an output signal of a high precision and a high speed of 20MHz, showing that it is suitable for real-time applications.
