On voit, d'après son mode de formation (voir § 5. a)), que la condition de structure d'ordre ⓝ fait intervenir les dérivées des Tj par rapport à leurs arguments φ,k jusqu'à l'ordre n+2. L'ensemble des conditions de structure d'ordre inférieur ou égal à ⓝ caractérise la classe des équations de conservation qui sont modulables jusqu'à l'ordre ⓝ au moins, lorsqu'elles possèdent des familles d'ondes planes périodiques. On peut conjecturer, d'après les résultats obtenus ci-dessus, qu'appartiennent à cette classe les équations de conservation qui sont osculatrices à l'ordre n+2 à une équation conservatrice lagrangienne. Mais beaucoup d'autres équations, possèdant des ondes planes périodiques, peuvent être trouvées dans cette classe.
Il est probable également que les résultats trouvés aux premiers ordres s'étendent aux ordres d'approximation suivants : si les dérivées des Tj par rapport aux φ,k sont toutes nulles en φ,k = 0 (k = 1,...,4) à partir d'un certain ordre de dérivation, ce qui est le cas des équations polynomiales en φ,k, et si l'ordre d'approximation requis pour les trains d'ondes lentement variables est suffisamment élevé, seules les équations osculatrices à un certain ordre à une équation lagrangienne sont modulables. D'autres classes d'équations peuvent apparaître mais qui ne possèdent pas de solutions d'ondes planes périodiques régulières. A la limite, lorsque l'ordre d'approximation de la modulation devient infiniment grand, on peut penser que seules sont modulables les équations osculatrices en φ,k = 0 à un ordre arbitraire à une équation lagrangienne.
