Cancer is the first cause of death in France in front of the cardiovascular pathologies. In 2011, in France, 211 743 new cases of cancers are listed for 65 years old and more, wich is about 58% of all cancers all ages combined. The general practitioner (GP), occupies a central place in the care of the old subject suffering from cancer. His major role in the success of the therapeutic project deserves probably to be better recognized. It is about a disease that asks to the doctor of multiple skills that he have to develop with regard to the new advances.
Considering the evolution of the number of cancer in years to come, the GP has to assert its role, know networks at his disposal and develop its links with the other participants around these patients. The central place of the GP in the care of the old patients affected by cancer requires the implementation of a structuring of the care. These measures are a part of the f
French campaign of the government. They aim at strengthening the central rule of the GP, at improving the information sharing, and all in all, the care of the old patients affected by cancer.
The object of this article is to define its main missions at each stages of the care of the patient, the diagnosis until after cancer.
