Résumé Objectifs
L’incontinence urinaire (IU) est une maladie courante. Le but de notre étude était d’évaluer la prévalence, les facteurs de risque et l’influence sur la qualité de vie de l’IU chez les femmes en générale et chez les patientes qui consultent les gastroentérologues et les gynécologues de la région du Rhône-Alpes, en France.
Plan d’étude
En ce qui concerne la population en général, un questionnaire fut expédié à un échantillon de 2 800 personnes choisies au hasard à partir du registre électoral. Pour la seconde partie de l’étude, les patientes furent choisies, au hasard, parmi celles qui consultaient les gynécologues et les gastroentérologues. L’IU était définie comme l’affection provoquant une perte d’urine involontaire.
Résultats
Pour la première partie de l’étude, un total de 376 questionnaires furent analysés: la prévalence de l’IU fut de l’ordre de 62 %. Pour la seconde partie de l’étude, 83 médecins renvoyèrent 664 questionnaires valides. La prévalence de l’IU fut de l’ordre de 65 %. Chez les deux populations, la qualité de vie était significativement inférieure chez les femmes avec une IU. Les facteurs significatifs associés à l’IU comprenaient: l’age, l’indice de masse corporelle (IMC), la parité et la délivrance vaginale, et l’incontinence anale.
Conclusions
Cette étude confirme une prévalence accrue de l’incontinence urinaire chez la femme française et ses influences nuisibles sur la qualité de vie.
