Results from the multiplicity distributions of inclusive photons and charged particles, scaling of particle multiplicities, event-by-event multiplicity fluctuations, and charged-neutral fluctuations in 158A GeV Pb+Pb collisions are presented and discussed. A scaling of charged particle multiplicity as Npart1.07±0.05 and photos as Npart1.12±0.03 have been observed, indicating violation of naive...
We have measured the in-plane resistivity of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ and Tl2Ba2 CaCu2O8+δ single crystals in the temperature range 70–300 K. The thermodynamic fluctuations in the conductivity of both the samples start around ∼ 125 K. We find the Lawrence and Doniach [1] model to be inadequate to describe the fluctuation conductivity in these materials. The modification suggested by Ramallo et al [4] where...
Transitions to universality classes of random matrix ensembles have been useful in the study of weakly-broken symmetries in quantum chaotic systems. Transitions involving Poisson as the initial ensemble have been particularly interesting. The exact two-point correlation function was derived by one of the present authors for the Poisson to circular unitary ensemble (CUE) transition with uniform initial...
The multiplicity fluctuations of the produced pions were studied using scaled variance method in 16O–AgBr interactions at 2.1 AGeV, 24Mg–AgBr interactions at 4.5 AGeV, 12C–AgBr interactions at 4.5 AGeV, 16O–AgBr interactions at 60 AGeV and 32S–AgBr interactions at 200 AGeV at two different binning conditions. In the first binning condition, the rapidity interval was varied in steps of one centring...
The good agreement between lattice predictions and data for the shape of the distribution of event-by-event fluctuations of the baryon number is discussed. Such comparisons can give fine probes of thermalization, and can be used to provide a direct determination of the cross-over temperature Tc of QCD. The logic of these comparisons and the systematics involved are discussed. The same methods can...
On November 8, 2010 the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN collided the first stable beams of heavy ions (Pb on Pb) at the centre-of-mass energy of 2.76 TeV/nucleon. The LHC worked exceedingly well during its one month of operation with heavy ions, delivering about 10 μb − 1 of data, with peak luminosity reaching to towards the end of the...
We discuss physics of exotic high baryon density QCD phases which are believed to exist in the core of a neutron star. This can provide a laboratory for exploring exotic physics such as axion emission, KK graviton production etc. Much of the physics of these high-density phases is model-dependent and not very well understood, especially the densities expected to occur inside neutron stars. We follow...
We examine the vibrational resonance (VR) of particles moving in a strongly nonlinear damped medium with a harmonically perturbed potential consisting of a background smooth triple-well potential superimposed by a fast oscillating periodic function and subjected to weak and high-frequency (HF) driving forces. The combined effects of the nonlinear damping inhomogeneity and roughness induced by the...
