The article contains an interpretation of images of the Biała river in the Podlasie literature of the twentieth and twenty-first century in the context of imaginative geography and various forms of memory defined by Aleida Assmann. The analysis is based on texts written by Poles, Jews, and Belarusians living in Białystok. The article also shows the “politics of site” pursued by the city government in relation to the Biała river.
