This paper is presenting Finite Element Tearing and Interconnecting (FETI) simulation results of large scale Ka-band lens transmit-arrays obtained on massively parallel clusters. The computation times observed with the FETI method allow us to consider using it in the optimization phase of such transmit-arrays.
For mode multiplexing transmission using two-dimensional orthogonal field distribution, a beam switching circuit is designed and transmission between Tx and Rx antenna systems are calculated. Generation of orthogonal four modes by the beam switching circuit is presented in this paper. The simulated isolations between the orthogonal modes are over 20 dB at the center frequency.
This paper proposes a new low-profile high-gain wideband gradient refractive index (GRIN) lens fed by a magnetic-electric (ME) dipole antenna. As a constituent part of this lens, a novel sub-wavelength nonresonant metamaterial unit cell composed of 3-layer substrates is also proposed. By applying Rogers 5880 and air as the top and bottom layers, high and low refractive indexes can be achieved for...
In this paper a dipole antenna is loaded with C-shaped metamaterial unit cell array. This array of metamaterial unit cells acts as a dielectric lens to focus the E-filed radiated from the dipole antenna in a particular direction. The effect of loading metamaterial layer on the dipole is studied, a gain enhancement of 5dB is observed. The predicted results were verified through measurements and it...
A Ka-band 2D flat-profiled Luneburg lens antenna implemented with a glide-symmetric holey structure is presented. The required refractive index for the lens design has been investigated via an analysis of the hole depth and the gap between the two metallic layers constituting the lens. The final unit cell is described and applied to create the complete metasurface Luneburg lens showing that a plane...
In this paper, a transmission type negative refractive index metamaterial surface acting as a planer surface lens is presented. A measured 3 dB transmission band of 2 GHz from 8.55 GHz to 10.55 GHz is obtained. Material property of the proposed meta-surface is extracted by using free space technique. The designed meta-surface is radiation beam conversing in nature. Aperture efficiency of the designed...
For covering a specified wide circular area with a tilted sectoral beam, this paper proposes compact beam-tilted multimode horns based on coaxial dual-path guides and shaped dielectric-lens onto the horn aperture. We present two design examples with a beam tilted up to 20 degrees for 24 GHz radio-sensor systems. One is constructed with an axially symmetrical structure and also is fed by a bend waveguide,...
This paper presents an architecture of transmitarray antenna consisting of waveguide-type elements. The array has a planar surface profile facing the beam directions of radiation, and has a convex surface profile facing to the feeds of illumination. The concave surface is analogous to the curve of Rotman lens for the applications of multi-beam radiation. The additional phases required in the concept...
