In this paper, we demonstrated a passively mode-locked erbium-doped fiber laser by incorporating a microfiber-based tungsten diselenide (WSe2) saturable absorber (SA). We obtained stable mode-locking with pulse duration of 1.2 ps, repetition rate of 2.6 MHz and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 66 dB at maximum pump power of 400 mW. The experimental results show that CVD-grown WSe2 film can serve as...
In this paper, we reported a simple and compact all-fiber erbium-doped femtosecond laser mode-locked by fiber-taper molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) saturable absorber (SA). The SA was prepared by magnetron-sputtering deposition (MSD) method, directly growing MoS2 film and then gold film on the microfiber. Based on this SA, the oscillator operated in soliton state, and delivered 478 fs pulses with 6.2...
We have investigated L-band dispersion-managed mode-locked (DMML) fiber laser incorporating carbon-nanotube saturable absorbers. For the first time, the DMML fiber laser operates at 1595 nm with the net cavity dispersion changing from −0.34 to −0.20 ps2, showing that the spectral bandwidth can be broadened by 39%.
We demonstrated a fundamentally semiconductor saturable absorber mirror (SESAM) mode-locked fiber oscillator with a repetition rate up to 835 MHz at a central wavelength of 1572.3 nm. The average power of the output pulse is 6.02 mW, corresponding to a pulse energy of 7.2 pJ with an 150 mW incident pump power. Due to the intracavity anomalous dispersion, the laser is operating at soliton mode-locked...
In this paper· we demonstrate a Yb-doped· all-polarization-maintained· dumbbell-shaped fiber laser operating in dissipative soliton resonance regime. A nonreciprocal phase shifter is introduced to a reflective nonlinear optical loop mirror to reduce the self-starting threshold. The duration of the square pulses generated can be adjusted from 207ps to 20.6 ns by increasing pump power. Up to 512 nJ...
In this paper, all-fiber based all polarization maintaining erbium-doped fiber lasers based on nonlinear amplifying loop mirror (NALM), including both figure-of-8 and figure-of-9 configurations are demonstrated. The figure-of-8 oscillator generates 1.6 ps chirped pulses at 1550 nm with a pulse energy of 0.8 nJ and a repetition rate of 12 MHz. The figure-of-9 oscillator generates 420 fs pulses at 1550...
We have demonstrated a thulium-doped mode-locked fiber laser incorporating carbon-nanotube-based saturable absorber (CNT-SA) with ring pattern for the first time. The mode-locking operation can be maintained an intracavity average power of 37.8 mW, indicating that CNT with ring pattern can enhance the thermal damage threshold of SAs near 2 μm.
We demonstrate a dispersion managed Erbium doped all-fiber laser with 101.75MHz repetition rate using 45°TFG to realize mode locking based on nonlinear polarization rotation technique. In our experiment, stable dual-pulse tightly bound states were observed under the pump power of505mW.
A wavelength-tunable Erbium-doped fiber laser with birefringence-enhanced cavity is proposed. A 45° tiled fiber grating (45°TFG) and a section of polarization maintaining (PM) fiber are placed between two two polarization controllers (PCs). Two PCs and PM fiber are employed to enhance the birefringence effect. The 45° TFG plays the role of an in-fiber polarizer. The fiber laser is mode-locked by single...
We report on the generation of versatile pulse patterns in an erbium-doped fiber laser incorporating a 2D nano-materials, topological insulator (TI): Bi2Te3. By depositing of the TI on a microfier, an effctive saturable absorber (SA) would be created, which has combined the advantages from the strong nonlinear optical response in TI material together with the suffiently-long-range interaction length...
We experimentally observed the coexistence of polarization domains and polarization locked vector solitons in an Er-doped fiber laser with microfiber-based graphene as a saturable absorber. Taking advantage of the highly nonlinear effect and saturable absorption effect of the microfiber-based graphene saturable absorber, we have obtained polarization domains and their splitting into regularly or irregularly...
We demonstrate that a low repetition rate, all-fiber passively mode-locked Yb-doped fiber laser through nonlinear polarization rotation (NPR). A 1000 m long single-mode fiber (SMF) is inserted into the cavity to lower the repetition rate. The laser operates in dissipative soliton resonance (DSR) region and generates stable square pulses with a 202.3 kHz fundamental repetition rate. When the pump power...
We report on the first observation, to the best of our knowledge, of soliton explosion in an ultrafast fiber laser mode-locked by nonlinear polarization evolution. Different from previous experimental observations in passively mode-locked lasers, the soliton explosions continue thousands roundtrips.
In this contribution, we will review our recent activities in the development of double nested cavity lasers. Several stable operating regimes can be achieved over a wide range of conditions.
We demonstrate an all fiber Er-doped mode-locked fiber laser based on dumbbell-shaped dual-amplifier structure. This laser functions in dissipative soliton resonance regime. Both a nonlinear optical fiber loop mirror and a nonlinear amplifying optical fiber loop mirror are employed to initiate the mode-locked laser. We find that one amplifier can control amplitude and duration of output pulse at the...
We demonstrate a passive harmonic mode-locked erbium-doped fiber laser with long cavity based on nonlinear polarization rotation (NPR). The total cavity length is 696 m, which can be achieved by incorporating a 650 m long single mode fiber (SMF). The fiber laser produces 6.1 ps, 6.49 nJ mode-locked pulse at a fundamental repetition rate of 306.4 kHz. And from 2th to 16th order passive harmonic mode-locked...
We propose and demonstrate an all-fiber passively mode-locked laser with pulsed cylindrical vector beam output based on a mode selective coupler (MSC) in a figure-8 cavity, The MSC made of a two mode fiber and a standard single mode fiber is used as both the intracavity transverse mode converter and mode splitter. Through adjusting the polarization state in the laser cavity, both radially and azimuthally...
45° tilted fiber grating (TFG) possesses a series of merits, such as strong polarization dependant loss (PDL), low insertion loss, superior compatibility, and compactness. One of the most prominent features of such polarizing device is the all-fiber structure. This polarizing element plays an important role in all-fiber integrated systems which have been widely investigated in the last two decades...
We report, for the first time to our knowledge, the usage of CVD-grown few-layer WSe2 as a saturable absorber for the mode locking of a thulium-doped fiber laser. The WSe2 saturable absorber was deposited on the waist of the tapered fiber. By employing the WSe2 saturable absorber, we demonstrate a passively mode-locked fiber laser operating at 1863.96 nm with a 3 dB spectral bandwidth of 2.89 nm....
