Here we demonstrate, to the best of our knowledge, a tunable 1.5 μm narrow linewidth fiber ring laser using a temperature tuning π-phase shifted fiber Bragg grating (π-PSFBG) for the first time. The π-PSFBG is employed as both a narrow band filter and a wavelength tuning component by a thermo electric cooler (TEC). The tuning range of the laser is 1.29 nm with the precision of 14 pm/°C, and the maximum...
We demonstrate a simple all-fiber erbium-doped CPA system with a large mode area fiber compressor, delivering 177 fs pulse with ∼16.5 nJ energy at 39.5 MHz pulse repetition rate.
This paper proposes a kind of orbital angular momentum (OAM) mode supporting fiber based on photonic crystal fiber structure, give a design strategy for designing a family of circular photonic crystal OAM fiber with the good transmission performance features such as good quality OAM modes, enough separation of the effective indices, low confinement loss, flat dispersion, large effective area, and...
A temperature demodulation method by using compensation of fiber attenuation and dispersion for distributed temperature sensors (DTS) is proposed and demonstrated in order to improve the DTS measuring speed and accuracy. Firstly, the attenuation coefficients difference between anti-Stokes and Stokes backscattering is modified, which avoids the calibration processing on the entire sensing optical fiber...
We demonstrate simultaneous spatial and arbitrary temporal pulse-shaping with a picosecond Yb-doped fiber laser system generating an output power > 10 W. By using a self-developed feed-back control algorithm on a single polarization optical pulse shaper, we obtained arbitrary complex pulse structures in the time domain with high accuracy and at high power level. Meanwhile, the pulse shaping in...
We have demonstrated a thulium-doped mode-locked fiber laser incorporating carbon-nanotube-based saturable absorber (CNT-SA) with ring pattern for the first time. The mode-locking operation can be maintained an intracavity average power of 37.8 mW, indicating that CNT with ring pattern can enhance the thermal damage threshold of SAs near 2 μm.
In this paper, the OSNR expressions for the cascaded system in the practical optical network is derived from the definition of OSNR. Then we analyse the OSNR changes in optical channels resulted from the variation of network topology, which is verified by optical network simulation software at the end of the paper.
A novel side-excitation fiber-optic laser-ultrasound transducer based on fused taper fiber is proposed and demonstrated. The transducer achieves ultrasound generation at optical fiber sidewall and performs a relative high conversion efficiency. In the experiments, 514 mV peak-to-peak power ultrasound wave has been obtained at the fiber sidewall with input 0.04 mJ laser pulse. Theoretical analysis...
We report a broadband ytterbium-doped femtosecond fiber laser around 980nm. The cavity is based on the all-normal dispersion (ANDi) configuration, including a diffraction-grating which plays a crucial role as a narrow-band spectral filter. The spectral bandwidth of mode-locked pulse reaches 11.4 nm, which approaches the gain bandwidth (about 13nm) of the ytterbium doped fiber around 980 nm. The pulse...
This paper reports a 400-km ultra-long haul unrepealed transmission system in a 8×10 Gbit/s optical transmission network (OTN) by using forward Raman amplifier and backward second order remotely optical pumped amplifier(ROPA). A second order ROPA is obtained by adding an auxiliary second order pump to the first order ROPA. Through experiment, we compare the performance of 1st ROPA and 2nd ROPA in...
LiDAR(Light Detection And Ranging) is an important sensor in the environmental perception of self-driving cars. This article mainly aims at the existing unmanned application environment, design a feasible LiDAR(Light Detection And Ranging) for low-speed short-range barge truck, and definition of parameters on laser radar on the whole measurement range: 100m, accuracy: 3cm, data acquisition frequency...
In this paper, we demonstrate a 2μm switchable single-longitudinal-mode dual-wavelength fiber laser based on composite cavity and a core-offset structure. The fiber laser is switchable, power-equalized and operating in single-longitudinal-mode.
We propose and experimentally investigate a linearly-polarized narrow linewidth random fiber laser (RFL) operating at 1080 nm and boost the output power to kilowatt-level with near-diffraction-limited beam quality by a master-oscillation-power-amplifier (MOPA) configuration. The RFL based on half-opened cavity generates 0.71 W seed laser with 88 pm full width at half-maximum (FWHM) linewidth and 22...
A novel multi-wavelength switchable laser system is proposed and demonstrated, which is based on polarization hole burning (PHB) effect in an erbium-doped fiber (EDF) laser (EDFL). In this EDFL, multiple fiber Bragg gratings with different wavelengths are used as comb filter. The PHB effect is enhanced by polarization separating of the multi-wavelength lasing lines through adjusting the polarization...
We demonstrate an all fiber Er-doped mode-locked fiber laser based on dumbbell-shaped dual-amplifier structure. This laser functions in dissipative soliton resonance regime. Both a nonlinear optical fiber loop mirror and a nonlinear amplifying optical fiber loop mirror are employed to initiate the mode-locked laser. We find that one amplifier can control amplitude and duration of output pulse at the...
We make a theoretical demonstration of the transformation from the dissipative soliton to amplifier similariton in an all-normal dispersion fiber laser for the first time. An intermediate state between the dissipative soliton and amplifier similariton is proposed and we call it the “Dissipative similariton” considering its shaping mechanism and characteristics. Pulse regimes dynamics is thoroughly...
The amplification characteristics of DPSK signal in semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) is numerically simulated and experimentally demonstrated for the first time. The results show that the bit pattern effect (BPE) of the DPSK signal is induced by SOA. According to the results, when pulsewidth of the signal is comparable to the gain recovery time of SOA, the BPE is severe. And when the pulsewidth...

The damage characteristics of two rare-earth-doped fibers irradiated by electron accelerator and 60Co radiation source have been investigated, and the radiation sensitivity properties of the key components in EDFA have been compared. And moreover, a study on passive-transmission and radiation-hard EDFA based on modified erbium-doped fiber based on Cerium and hydrogen loading was carried out. The EDFA...
A fiber laser source based on a spectral-compressed dissipative soliton oscillator for broadband coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (BCARS) microspectroscopy is reported. The high-power narrowband picosecond pump pulses for BCARS are obtained by spectral compression in a cascaded fiber amplifier. BCARS signal with high spectral resolution is demonstrated by this fiber source.
