In this paper, an empirical Rice K factor, distribution is accomplished. The results show that the distribution obtained by measurements well-fitted with the Nakagami-m one. Data have been gathered within the reverberating chamber (RC) of the Università degli Studi di Napoli Parthenope, formerly Istituto Universitario Navale (IUN).
The optical fiber communication network is featured by strong anti-interference, good signal quality and other advantages. However, there are many equipment for the conversion of photoelectric signal is widely used in optical fiber communication network. When they are subjected to intentional electromagnetic interference radiation, it will affect their work, and even damage to the equipment, endangering...
Loop antennas are widely used in various military and civil test applications in order to measure the magnetic fields especially below 30 MHz. They are commonly calibrated as per the standards IEEE 291 and SAE-ARP 958. Although there are a good number of researches in literature about the comparisons of loop antenna calibration methods, we brought the comparison measurements one more step further...
In order to study the ability of the ferrite magnetic ring to combined protection to the high altitude electromagnetic pulse (HEMP) and lightning, this paper studies the HEMP and lightning protection of ferrite magnetic ring based on an 500 kV open-type substation by experiment of PSCAD program. The results show that the ferrite magnetic ring can suppress the magnitude of the intrude current, effectively...
The coupling devices for RF immunity testing in close proximity defined in the new basic standard IEC 61000-4-39 are TEM horn antennas. The required parameters for TEM horn antennas are investigated based on simulations and measurements. In addition the practical relevance of the test method has been investigated with respect to the field properties as well as for an example of a practical mobile...
Power line communication is becoming the backbone of the smart home and grid applications. This technology does not stop showing its ability and advantages. Enhancing its performance inside a home network requires topology estimation and transmission modeling techniques. We propose a simulator which is able to extract the transfer function between two chosen outlets. The simulator uses the multipath...
The utilization of the de-embedding method for Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) component measurements in automotive applications presents a practicable solution approach for improved attenuation measurement results of the device under test (DUT). The attenuation of a component prevents the passing on of conducted emissions inside the car from the mostly screened high-voltage level to the unshielded...
Pin-capacitor distance is studied for the efficiency of local decoupling capacitors in power delivery networks (PDN) designed as power transmission lines. The inefficiency of remote decoupling capacitors is explained with a physical insight using the fundamental principles of transmission line theory. The proposed model conforms well to general observations and is supported by numerical examples.
This paper presents a miniaturized near field shielded magnetic probe, fabricated using low cost printed circuit board technology. The probe performance is calibrated and validated from 1MHz–1GHz. The probe is fabricated on an FR4 substrate of thickness 0.8mm and consists of 3 layers with the signal in the middle layer and top and bottom layers dedicated to ground planes. The aperture size of the...
In numerical electromagnetic simulations of nondestructive testing methods, single and multilayer CAD models of woven glass and carbon fiber composites are analyzed to find intentionally introduced material defects. The models are excited by plane waves up to frequencies of 650 GHz (submillimeter wavelength) and by Gaussian pulses of 5 ps duration. The transmitted and reflected electric field patterns...
This paper describes the results of evaluation and simulation modeling of the influence of a silicon substrate propagation disturbance on circuit operation in silicon-on-insulator BCD (BIPOLAR/CMOS/LDMOS) process. In the evaluation, the susceptibility of the Widlar bandgap voltage reference (BGR) to a disturbance propagating from the substrate is measured by direct RF power injection tests in the...
An RF electromagnetic (EM) characterization of high pulsed voltage electrode is investigated in the present paper. The electrode acts as an electric-or E-field pulse generator for atom probe tomography (APT) application. The proposed electrode device is essentially comprised of a microstrip transmission line (TL) combined with via hole. The challenging prediction of the electrode signal integrity...
This paper is an investigation about an Electromagnetic Compatibility test called Radiated Immunity. The goal of such test is to check if a device under test, e.g. electronic equipment, is sufficiently immune to electromagnetic noise coming from both intentional and non-intentional sources. Depending on the interference source, the field waveform might be complex, given the modern modulation and multiple...
This paper presents a hybrid approach to the investigation of the performance of printed circuit boards (PCB) by examining the impact of parasitic parameters of the board design on the efficiency of a device. First, parasitic parameters are extracted from the board layout by 3D quasistatic field solvers. Second, the corresponding equivalent circuit is constructed. Third, the extracted parasitic circuits...
This communication introduces the principle of a measurement method to perform a Radar Cross-Section estimation within a reverberation chamber. A single transmitting and receiving antenna is directed toward a target placed on a rotating mast that enables to characterize it over its azimuthal angle. From a theoretical point of view, we investigate the process of retrieving the backscattered field produced...
The equivalent circuits modeling method is developed for the EMP(Electromagnetic pulse) generators of the equipment-level immunity test. On the double-exponential function of EMP waveform, the corresponding circuit structure is introduced, and the calculation method is given to obtain the circuit RLC parameters. For the generators of EFT(Electrical Fast Transient/Burst), surge combination wave, and...
This paper proposes a new structure of the near magnetic field probe. In the case of detecting noise current on printed circuit boards (PCB) using conventional loop type probe, it is necessary to rotate directions of the probe because the probe has no sensitivity to the current perpendicular to the plane of the loop. Therefore, the new type probe with less directional dependence is required to reduce...
Cable ferrites are noise suppression components acting as a common-mode filter. In former work a new characterization method for cable ferrites, using a TEM waveguide, was described. It provides a new set of more representative ferrite parameters. From these parameters, the impedance of the currently widely used wire-loop setup measurement can be derived as well as for other terminations of the wire...
Reverberating chambers (RC) are of interest in several applications including the Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC). In this paper, an alternative representation of the three-dimensional state of the electromagnetic field in RC, is developed. The proposed technique can be useful in several applications in which a complete depolarization of the electromagnetic field is due. A meaningful set of experiments...
In this paper, we model the inductive current clamp (ICC) method described in the ISO 7637-3 standard, where we apply a broadband transient signal as disturbance. To validate the advocated model, a nonlinear device under test (DUT) is simulated, manufactured and measured under the ISO 7637-3 standard test conditions. Furthermore, it is shown that the proposed model can be used to study the DUT's immunity.
