In this paper, we study the performance of finite-length LDPC codes in the waterfall region. We propose an algorithm to predict the error performance of finite-length LDPC codes over various binary memoryless channels. Through numerical results, we find that our technique gives better performance prediction compared to existing techniques.
In heterogeneous cellular networks, cross-tier inter-cell interference is often in mixed interference scenario where the macro-cell causes strong interference to pico-cells while pico-cells only cause weak interference to the macro-cell. In this scenario, the popular interference coordination schemes using power control or time/frequency division multiplexing are far from achieving the spectrum efficiency...
Distributed, throughput-optimal medium access control (MAC) protocols have recently been proposed for wireless networks. While the performance of these protocols is well understood in terms of the throughput, simulation studies have shown that their delay performance is very sensitive to the protocol's parameter values. To address the problem of selecting parameters that minimize the average packet...
Topology-transparent scheduling algorithms can work well in mobile ad hoc networks, since they are oblivious to the network topology changes and can provide throughput and delay guarantees. Recently, it has been shown that topology-transparent algorithms can provide comparable or even better performance, compared to topology-dependent algorithms. However, most existing topology-transparent scheduling...
Cognitive radio can improve the spectrum efficiency by allowing multiple secondary users to access the idle licensed spectrum, for which efficient and fair spectrum sharing is one of the key challenges. In this paper, we investigate the multiuser multi-channel spectrum allocation problem in cognitive radio networks with the objective of maximizing the minimum throughput among all the cognitive pairs...
In this paper, the unnecessary handover avoidance scheme is discussed in Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A) small cells. Specifically, a handover is considered as unnecessary one if the active time in the target cell (i.e., duration where the user equipment can perform data communication) is not larger than a pre-defined threshold, where the active time is predicted before the handover through the...
In this paper, we propose a hybrid decision algorithm for the selection of the access in multi-operator networks environment, where competing operators share their radio access networks to meet traffic and data rate demands. The proposed algorithm guarantees the user satisfaction and a global gain for all cooperating operators. Simulation results prove the efficiency of the proposed scheme and show...
In this paper, we propose a novel range-free localization algorithm tailored for heterogeneous wireless sensor networks (WSNs), where nodes have different transmission capabilities. Two different approaches are developed to accurately derive the expected hop progress (EHP). It is shown that the obtained EHP depends solely on the information locally available at each node and, hence, can be computed...
Existing literatures [1] [2] [3] [4] show that deploying fixed relay infrastructure with stable interconnections can help to improve network connectivity. However, fixed relay infrastructure is inflexible and could be costly to deploy over large area. In this paper, we study the effectiveness of mobile relays in improving network connectivity in both Random Waypoint and Manhattan mobility models....
