This paper proposes a novel multicast mobility solution aimed for mobile video, empowered by a cross-layer approach leveraging on the capabilities of Multicast Context Transfer and IEEE 802.21 Media-Independent Handover. The proposed solution was implemented and deployed in a real testbed, with results showing the significantly reduced latency for vertical handovers.
Over the past few years, mobile devices, particularly smartphones have seen dramatic increases in data consumption. The significant increases in data usage have placed tremendous strain on the wireless infrastructure necessitating research across a variety of optimization, efficiency, and capacity improvements. Complementary to those research efforts is the acquisition of a better understanding what...
As a key enabler of Internet of things, cellular network based Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications have been growing rapidly in recent years, being used in a wide range of services such as security, metering, health, remote control, tracking, and so on. A critical issue in M2M communications is the energy efficiency as typically the machine devices are powered by batteries of low capacity and...
The digitization of social networks has enabled the passive collection of large scale data, which in turn have fostered social studies that have been traditionally dependent on small scale, interview-based data. During the last years, a new class of digital social networks has emerged, namely, location-based social networks (LBSNs). The main interaction between users of an LBSN is location sharing,...
