L-3 EDD has developed a pulsed mode W-Band microwave power module (MPM) providing 100W RF power over 92 to 96 GHz. The MPM includes a serpentine waveguide PPM-focused TWT and a modular electronic power conditioner (EPC). A breadboard power supply was previously built and successfully tested with a W-Band TWT. The final power conditioner design is completing development for packaging with a TWT as...
ITER is an international project supported by seven partners: China, Europe, India, Japan, Korea, Russian Federation and USA. Formally established in 2006, construction has started in France, more precisely in Provence. General progress of the project is presented followed by a focus on the RF systems which will provide 40 MW into the plasma, based on systems around 50 MHz and 170 GHz. These systems...
Many emerging applications for high power RF sources place a premium on electrical efficiency. For pulsed systems, much of the energy is lost in the rising and falling edges of the beam current. This paper presents the concept of a pulsed depressed collector and the resulting improvements in system efficiency.
A X-band pulsed MPM for radar system had been developed in China. The MPM could provide output power of 500 W with 30% efficiency in 20% duty cycle. The dimension of it is 236mm×156mm×33mm, and the weight of it is less than 2Kg.
L-3 EDD has developed a high power MPM capable of producing greater than 200W of output power from 6.5 to 18 GHz. The MPM includes a high power mini-TWT paired with a state of the art power converter, and driver SSA.
This paper introduced a vacuum electronic device of integrated travelling wave tube (TWT). It could enable three independent amplifiers inside a collective permanent periodic magnetic (PPM) which could reduce the average cross section area. The design process and results are presented and the multi-beam transmission experiment shows a 95% beam transmission.
