Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA) is an interferometer in Atacama desert in Chile at altitude of 5 km, which is now in a final stage of construction. This array consists of 12-m and 7-m diameter antennas with base line up to 16 km. Each antenna will be equipped with a state of art heterodyne receivers covering atmospheric windows in the range of 30 to 950 GHz. The design of current generation...
Data processing of Terahertz signals for reliable explosives detection via Terahertz time-domain spectroscopy is investigated. Wavelet denoising, wavelet power spectrum estimation, and wavelength selection show promising results. Experiment results for Composition B-3 and Pentolite are presented.
Beam current of gyrotron was stabilized from 17 % to 0.5% by the feedback control to adjust the heater voltage of electron gun. The fluctuation level of output power was decreased from 15 % to 5 %. More effective stabilization of the output power up to 2% was attained by feedback control to adjust heater voltage.
We demonstrate two different Terahertz (THz) rectification mechanisms by graphene field effect transistors: 1) a standard rectification mechanism where THz radiation modulates simultaneously the carrier density and the carrier velocity, and 2) a mesoscopic rectification due to the existence of the nonlinearity associated to the quantum interference effects.
We use fibre-drawing methods to make large quantities of indium wire arrays embedded in polymer. By controlling the size and spacing of the wires in the arrays, we fabricate electric metamaterials with plasma frequencies in the THz through to the mid-IR. We also discuss the limitations of this process using the current choice of materials.
