This paper presents a wide IF bandwidth (dc15 GHz) mixer with 27 to 48 GHz RF bandwidth using cascode device technique. The mixer is implemented in 0.15-mum GaAs PHEMT process. The measured 3-dB IF bandwidth is from dc to 15 GHz and RF bandwidth is from 27 to 48 GHz. This mixer achieves a measured conversion gain of 0 dB and isolation of 23 dB. This is the first demonstration of wide IF bandwidth...
A 21 GHz signal source is obtained from a 4 GHz voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) using an integrated self-oscillating mixer which, in essence, contains a fixed frequency oscillator (FFO) and a mixer. The phase noise for the up-converted signal is about 5 dB worse than for the 4 GHz VCO, much less than the expected 14.7 dB degradation if a frequency multiplier would be used. The focus of the present...
This paper investigates the advantages of using PMOS devices for passive resistive mixer design. The experimental results presented in this paper demonstrate that PMOS mixers offer the advantage of higher signal to noise ratio at very low output frequencies. The significantly lower 1/f noise more than compensates for the higher conversion loss on PMOS mixer as compared to the NMOS mixer. The PMOS...
