We report on the use of a photonic bandgap fiber for dispersion management of similaritons. The possibility of an all-fiber similariton laser is discussed by comparing the experimental results to a grating compressor.
Parabolic pulses from a similariton amplifier at 1550 nm are compressed using optimized linear compression in photonic bandgap fiber and soliton effect compression in dispersion-flattened highly nonlinear fiber. Transform-limited 20 fs pulses are obtained.
