Using scanning near field optical microscopy (SNOM), we observed the focusing effect provided by negative refraction in a 2D photonic crystal. Experimental observations are analyzed in light of FDTD 3D simulations.
We propose a composite photonic crystal for compensating an aberration in negative refractive lens. We experimentally observed that the focused spot size was clearly narrowed, compared with the case of single photonic crystal.
