In this paper we address the potential gain of using compact MIMO antenna array configurations in conjunction with HAP diversity techniques in order to increase the data rates in HAP communication systems. Simulation results show that the MIMO system provides superior performance as compared to the single HAP case.
The authors present an investigation on the capacity of line-of-sight (LoS) optimised and conventional (narrow-spaced) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication systems in outdoor environments. Under a LoS scenario, the channel is normally rank deficient due to the linear dependence of the LoS rays' phases on the receive elements. To overcome this problem, specifically designed antenna arrays...
This paper uses a detailed site-specific channel model to analyze the impact of path loss and co-channel interference (CCI) in a multi-base station broadband fixed wireless access (BFWA) network. The base stations are deployed in an urban setting and make use of sectorised multi-element arrays to suppress CCI from other cells/sectors. Customer premises equipment (CPE) is mounted at rooftop level on...
Non-Line-of-Sight and multipath propagation conditions pose significant problems for most mobile terminal positioning approaches. In contrast, power delay profile fingerprinting (PDP-F) thrives on multipath propagation. This multipath extension of T(D)oA is based on matching an estimated power delay profile from one or several base stations (BSs) (or other transmitters (broadcast, ...)) with a memorized...
A new multilevel coding (MLC) scheme invoking sphere packing (SP) modulation is proposed, where the SP arrangement is jointly designed with a space time block code (STBC) for the sake of attaining an additional space diversity gain. An iterative multistage decoding (MSD) aided multilevel sphere packing demodulator is proposed for attaining a high decoding performance at a low decoding complexity,...
We investigate the design of a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) channel sounder appropriate for the broadband fixed wireless access (FWA) scenario. To this end a 4 transmit 4 receive antenna system was simulated in order to investigate the effect of equipment imperfections on the estimation of channel parameters, for example, K-factor, power delay profile (PDP), antenna correlation coefficients...
This paper considers theoretical link spectral efficiency limits of multi-antenna channels with composite Rayleigh multipath fading and log-normal shadowing. The relevant limits include epsiv-achievable and delay-limited link spectral efficiencies which are defined with respect to the availability of the channel state information at the transmitter and the receiver. The numerical results suggest that...
We investigate the diversity gain of MIMO systems with antenna selection in measured propagation channels for wireless personal area networks. We measure both the communication from an access point to a laptop, and between two handheld devices. Both the transmitter and receiver use antenna selection for diversity transmission and reception. We consider a closed-loop system where the transmitter has...
The spatio-temporal array-receiver (STAR) decomposes generic wideband CDMA channel responses across various parameter dimensions (e.g., time-delays, multipath components, etc...) and extracts the associated time-varying parameters (i.e., analysis) before reconstructing the channel (i.e., synthesis) with increased accuracy. This work verifies the performance of STAR by comparing the results achieved...
