This paper describes the characterization of the cinematic of a rotation movement of the forearm in the horizontal plane. The recorded position is modelized as a linear differential equation relating the actual position to the target position. This approach is to our knowledge original. The parameters of this equation are then identified using an identification method which is decribed. Our first...
Ventricular fibrillation was simulated using three-dimensional heart model incorporating anatomic and electrophysiologic details. A parameter relating restitution of premature action potential durations to coupling interval of stimulation was defined and incorporated into the heart model to simulate the cell dynamics. Conduction delay during relative refractory period was also taken into account....
The present investigation was aimed to find out autoregulation factor of blood viscosity for various diseases by confirming blood as a non-Newtonian power law fluid. It was found that the autoregulation factor can be used for differentiating normal and pathological samples and subsequent rheological mapping of individual blood samples.
In this short paper we briefly describe the prototype of a Protein Structure Prediction System (PSPS), which is being developed at Brunei University, UK for Biomedical applications. The PSPS is based on protein structure predicting Machine Induction algorithms [1], [2], [3], and an associated protein database designed for this application.
A physiologically-based model of the relevant cardiovascular, respiratory and associated processes of a patient resident in a high dependency environment is described. The model will be implemented using a Causal Probabilistic Network, and will be tuned to represent the individual patient. It will provide advice, for instance regarding changes in ventilator therapy, and the model will also be used...
Within the framework of a R&D project on ultrasound thermotherapy of brain tumors, studies are in progress to develop 3D numerical modeling of power deposition and temperature patterns in view of clinical treatment planning. Patient vs. tumor characterization is based upon 3D voxel data acquired from low-feld MRI examinations. Original algorithms and software programs were developed for data clustering...
A model for the computation of induced electric fields into a sphere is presented. Input into the model is the time waveform of the current in the coil; the geometry of both the head tissues and of the coil can be taken into account, to reproduce the influence of these variables upon the intracranial electric fields. In these preliminary results, the proposed model has been validated in several test...
A moment-based operator for 3D edge detection has been already proposed for isotropic description of medical data sets. This paper presents its generalization to anisotropic volume data. Two solutions, based on implicit "deformation" and "interpolation" model, are briefly described. This comparison is conducted on real data and discussed.
A method is described to estimate the parameters and functions of the Hudgkin-Huxley model from voltage-clamp peak current data. When suitable experimental data are available, one then has a quantitative expression of the membrane channel dynamics.
We present an iterative algorithm for separating the segments containing exclusively neural noise in extracellular recordings without prior knowledge of neural spike locations or waveforms. This allows on-line design of a whitening filter and on-line determination of thresholds for detection and classification of neural spikes without human supervision. This algorithm can also be used as a first data...
A digital simulation which models certain aspects of the human speech production process is developed from fundamental principles. Specifically the transmission of sound in the vocal tract is modelled as acoustic wave propagation in a time-varying tube with some account taken of the inherent losses. The vocal tract model proposed here has been designed to include various acoustic effects which, though...
