We report a 1.55μΜ square microcavity laser monolithically integrated on GaAs substrates. The mode characteristics of the microcavity laser are numerically investigated by three-dimensional finite difference time domain method. The dependences of the whispering-gallery modes on the width of the output waveguide and the etching depth are discussed. For the cavity with the side length of 12μm and the...
We propose a scheme to realize polarization rotation (PR) based on SOI by using two mode converters and a phase shifter. Simulation results from 3D-FDTD show that the PR has extinction ratio (ER) larger than 20 dB and insertion loss less than 0.4 dB in an ultra-wide range from 1450 nm to 1650 nm for both TM0 and TE0. Moreover, the total length of the device is 33μm with a height of 220 nm.
A high-performance hybrid multiplexer for wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) and polarization-division multiplexing (PDM) is proposed and realized by combining a polarization-splitter-rotator (PSR) and a microring resonator (MRR) array. A 16-channel hybrid multiplexer with eight wavelength-channels and dual polarizations is demonstrated as an example. Any MRR works bi-directionally and provides...
A converged communication system with 100 Gbps based on photonic RF wave is proposed. In the system, the mechanism of the photonic RF wave with 40 GHz is demonstrated. With the comprehensive applications of advanced modulation technologies and excellent algorithms, the wireless access rate of the downstream can reach up to 100 Gbps. Due to the photoelectric direct detection, the whole system becomes...
High-reproducible chiral long-period gratings (CLPGs) are achieved, which are fabricated from normal single mode fibers. To explore torsion sensing application, we investigate the response trend of transmission spectrum versus mechanical twist rate in CLPGs. High torsion sensitivity is achieved, a perfect linear relationship between the resonance wavelength shift and the mechanical twist rate is displayed.
A 16-mode PANDA polarization-maintaining ring-core fiber (PM-RCF) is presented and optimized, which adjacent LP-modes show effective refractive index differences larger than 10−4 for multiple-input multiple-output-free (MIMO-free) space-division multiplexing (SDM) optical networks. Relative mode multiplicity factor (RMMF) is defined to evaluate the spatial efficiency of the presented PM-RCF.
We report, for the first time to our knowledge, the usage of CVD-grown few-layer WSe2 as a saturable absorber for the mode locking of a thulium-doped fiber laser. The WSe2 saturable absorber was deposited on the waist of the tapered fiber. By employing the WSe2 saturable absorber, we demonstrate a passively mode-locked fiber laser operating at 1863.96 nm with a 3 dB spectral bandwidth of 2.89 nm....
