This paper presents a new method for measuring the min isolation of polarization-independent free-space isolators. The light source in the scheme of conventional isolation measurement has been improved in this method. This method is easy to operate, there is no need to comfirm that the light source and the optical path of isolator are coaxial strictly. In the testing process, it can simplifies the...
A bidirectional fiber-IVLLC and fiber-wireless convergence system based on two orthogonally polarized optical sidebands for hybrid CATV/MMW/BB signal transmission is proposed and demonstrated. Two orthogonally polarized optical sidebands are transmitted over a 40-km SMF transport to effectively reduce the fiber dispersion and the distortion. The approach presented in this work signifies the advancements...
We review the recent research outputs at Monash Electro-Photonics Laboratory in a new field: electro-photonics, where the best of the electronic and photonic technologies are combined to increase the capacity, flexibility and energy efficiency of optical communications systems and networks.
We numerically demonstrate a nonamplified 100-Gb/s doubly differential QPSK signal transmission over 80-km SSMF without carrier recovery or chromatic dispersion compensation. The receiver sensitivity after 80-km SSMF transmission was below −28.8 dBm for frequency offsets up to 2 GHz.
A diaphragm based Michelson interferometric fiber-optic acoustic sensor based on symmetric 3×3 coupler is demonstrated in this paper. An ellipse fitting differential cross multiplication algorithm is proposed for signal interrogating. Experimental results show that a minimum detectable pressure (MDP) level of ∼500 μPa/Hz1/2 is obtained.
We proposed a simple method to measure the output third-Order intercept point (OIP3) for a photodiode(PD) using two-tone and one quadrature biased Mach-Zehnder modulator (MZM). We have achieved the method via simulation. Analysis is expanded to OIP3 as a function of voltage for input radio frequency (RF) tones, frequency for input RF tones. Experimental validation is also provided and the results...
Temperature dependence of the resonance loss, in the 850 nm-wavelength range, of a mechanically induced long period fiber grating (MLPFG) fabricated with a heat-shrinkable tube is investigated. The resonance loss of our MLPFG is very sensitive to temperature change, whereas the thermally induced resonance-wavelength shifts are small.
Although lots of research works have devoted to the generation of cylindrical vector vortex (CVV) beam, little attention has been paid to the detection work. Here, we have experimentally demonstrated a novel detection method to measure the helical topological charge of CVV beams at the working wavelength of 1550nm. The polarization order of CVV beams was firstly measured by using a polarizer. And...
Mode division multiplexed(MDM) in few mode fibers has gained attraction due to its potential to achieve ultrahigh capacity beyond the nonlinear Shannon limit of the single mode fiber. However, it cannot be ignored that the effect of crosstalk, mode coupling and differential mode group delay on optical signals exists in transmission and equalizing these impairments are required in the digital signal...
We study ultrafast spectral characteristics of our ultra-short ultra-slicon rich nitride (USRN) waveguide with large Kerr nonlinearity (γ∼550W−1/m) and negligible nonlinear loss. The output spectra of USRN ring resonator and short-length waveguide broaden around 2 times and 4 times wider than that in 500 fs input pulses, respectively. Negligible nonlinear loss including two-photon absorption at near-infrared...
A computationally efficient IFFT implementation for asymmetrically clipped optical OFDM transmitter is proposed and implemented in a Field-Programmable Gate Array. The overall computational complexity is reduced by 68% in a real-time transmitter.
We have experimentally evaluated a bit rate dependence of superimposed AMCC signal on 64B/66B line coded CPRI option 8 signal. We have clarified the trade-off relationship between bit rate of AMCC and degradation of main signal.
We propose and experimentally demonstrate a compact integrated silicon photonic comb filter based on two cascaded Sagnac-loop mirrors. By using thermal tuning with three micro-heaters, the center wavelength can be tuned over several FSRs and the 3-dB bandwidth can be tuned to 2.5 GHz.
We design a metric to measure the occupied holding time difference of frequency slots. With the metric, a routing and spectrum allocation algorithm in dynamic scenario is proposed to improve the network spectral utilization. Evaluation results show the proposed algorithm outperforms obviously in blocking probability.
We have demonstrated a single passband microwave photonic filter (MPF) based on the stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS). The obtained single passband MPF shows a main to secondary sidelobe ratio (MSSR) of exceeding 50 dB with a center frequency tunable from 0 to 40 GHz, and a full width at half maximum (FWHM) bandwidth of 16 MHz.
A five-mode multiplexer/demultiplexer based on a partially elongated five-core fiber is presented. Multiplexing operation is experimentally verified. Mode selectivity higher than 95% at 1550 nm, for both the LP11 and the LP21 mode, is achieved.
We have proposed and demonstrated a scheme of DMD based fast non-blocking optical switch with improved efficiency. A blazed micro-grating array is designed and fabricated to achieve ∼2dB efficiency improvements for all switching states.
We report about the design, fabrication and properties of wavelength division multiplex module with large core multimode optical polymer waveguides. The module is assembled from multimode planar optical 1×2 Y splitter embedded with multilayered dielectric filters and connected with large core plastic fibers. The splitter was designed by beam propagation method using BeamPROP software for connecting...
We propose a modified OFDM/OQAM scheme for VLC, which can efficiently boost the data rate and combat multipath induced distortions. To combat the effect of IMI, ISFA and MMSE combined with IAM are proposed.
