A microstrip antenna with reduced radar cross section(RCS) is presented. Complementary split ring resonator(CSRR) is introduced to the ground for low RCS microstrip antenna design. Comparisons with reference antenna demonstrate that the proposed antenna exhibits as much as 26.2dB RCS reduction while maintains radiation performance very well.
A novel short-circuited stubs loaded λ/4 resonator and its application to third-order dual-band bandpass filter are presented in this paper. Based on the analysis of resonance characteristics, it is found that the characteristics of the first passband can be conveniently controlled by the two loading shunt stubs, whereas that of the second passband are fixed. A third-order dual-band bandpass filter...
This paper presents a low-power high-gain V-band power amplifier (PA) in a low-cost commercial 0.18-µm SiGe BiCMOS technology. A novel wideband ESD protection circuit is demonstrated with <1 dB insertion loss in frequency range of 17–88 GHz. Design techniques utilized to optimize the gain and the power consumption are addressed. In the 60GHz frequency range, the designed PA achieves a peak gain...
This paper presents a fully integrated IF module which can receive or transmit signal with only one port. The switching time between reception and transmission is less than 3µs. In the state of reception, the IF module can convert differential signal to single-ended signal. Simulation results show 3.2dB power gain and 11.65dBm OP1dB while drawing 45mA from a 3.3V supply. In the state of transmission,...
A wideband balanced bandpass filter with three layers is presented in this paper. In differential mode, the microstrip layers are back-to-back short-circuited SIR, which form the differential passband with the slot resonators, meanwhile introducing two transmission zeros out of the passband. Whereas, the back-to-back SIR resonates outside the differential band in common-mode and produce a transmission...
With the development of electric vehicle and consumer electronics, the wireless power transfer (WPT) becomes a popular technology. Magnetic resonant coupling is considered to be the most effective and attractive WPT approach in recent years. Two-coil structure is widely used, where optimal load value and distance are critical to achieve maximum efficiency. In this paper, a three-coil structure is...
A novel chaotic spread spectrum acoustic communication method is proposed in this paper. A chaotic signal, generated by a hybrid dynamical system, is used as spread spectrum sequence and the corresponding chaotic matched filter is used to decrease the effect of multiple propagation and noises. The proposed method does not need the complicated channel modulation-demodulation and equalization technologies,...
This paper presents an overview of the CMOS on-chip rectifiers for RF energy harvesting in the RFID, internet of things, or wearable device applications. The pros and cons of different RF to DC rectifier topologies are investigated, compared, and summarized. All the topologies are designed and optimized in a 65nm CMOS process, with the input power range from −10dBm to 4dBm and the load resistor range...
Different configurations and design techniques to achieve high performance Ku/Ka band down-converter front-end for digital broadcast satellite (DBS) receivers are presented. The individual blocks of low-noise amplifier (LNA), mixer, balun, and IF amplifier suitable for DBS applications are reviewed and discussed in details. Also, our recent progress in the fully-integrated low-noise blocks (LNBs)...
This paper presents a two-way rectifier with high efficiency over an extended range of input power. The proposed solution is based on a 2∶1 power divider cascaded with two sub-rectifiers. The two sub-rectifying circuits are designed to obtain maximum RF-dc conversion efficiency at different input power levels. By combining the two subrectifiers using a power divider, the proposed rectifier has two...
An innovative wireless authentication platform for healthcare applications is designed, implemented and tested. It acts as a Common Recognition and Identification Platform (CRIP) operating with write/read function via either NFC or biometric modules for the users' authentication. The CRIP base station architecture consists of 13.56MHz NFC/RFID and 2.4GHz IEEE standard 802.15.1 BLE modules. The Bluetooth...
A microstrip 1∶4 switched power splitter (SPWS) printed on flexible Kapton substrate is designed. The SPWS topology is designed and implemented in hybrid technology by using the packaged switch SKY13298-360LF biased with 1.8 V supply. Electromagnetic and circuit co-simulations confirm the SPWS performance to operate in the IEEE standard 802.11a bands from 5.470–5.725 GHz. The designed 1∶4 SPWS presents...
Compact differential bandpass filters (BPFs) using coupled ring resonators are investigated in this work. Good differential-mode (DM) filtering performances, improved common-mode (CM) suppression, and miniaturized size are obtained and discussed. Two BPFs named Filter A and Filter B are presented and analyzed to validate the theory, respectively. Compared with Filter A, Filter B shows much improved...
To satisfy the continuously increasing demand for high data rates and mobility required by new wireless applications, the 5G has gained much attention recently. Radio frequency power amplifiers (RF-PAs), as one of critical components of 5G transmitter system, are becoming a hot issue. In this paper, the statistical analysis on RF PA papers shows the research on RF-PAs in Asia-Pacific and cooperation...
In this paper we report on the design and measurements of 1.75× 2.45mm2 monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) Doherty power amplifier (DPA) fabricated using low-voltage, low-cost GaAs hetero-junction bipolar transistor (HBT) technology. In measurements, from 31dBm to 40dBm saturated output power higher than 43% drain efficiency is obtained across 728 to 768 MHz band. Moreover, single stage...
A low-profile center-fed circular via-loaded patch antenna coupled with a via-loaded ring both is presented. The antenna operates in four resonant modes. A wide band is then obtained by coupling the four resonant modes. With a profile of 1.5 mm, the antenna has a 10-dB return loss band from 4.91 GHz to 6.7 GHz. It can generate an omnidirectional pattern within the impedance band. Simulation results...
In this report, a double-layer waveguide-fed antenna array is proposed to operate at the 60 GHz band. The simulated results show a maximum gain of 32.7 dBi, a 17% bandwidth centered at approximately 60 GHz and a maximum aperture efficiency of 70%. In addition, the antenna is simple in structure and easy in fabrication.
This paper proposes an empirical equation for input carrier power level dependence of 3rd order reflected passive intermodulation (PIM) product. Three kinds of microwave passive devices, namely, directional coupler, N type coaxial adapter and microstrip line, are measured by the PIM test setup in the 900MHz band. To obtain systematical experimental results, the power levels of the two carriers are...
In this paper, a terahertz waveguide filter using micromechanical milling process is designed and fabricated. The filter is designed at 255 GHz with a 3dB bandwidth of 30 GHz. The measured results show that the return loss is better than 15 dB and the insertion loss is about 3.9 dB at center frequency, good agreement between the measured and simulated results is achieved. In addition, the main loss...
The analog-to-digital converter (ADC) is one of the most expensive components in an RF transmitter, conventional digital predistortion (DPD) could be seriously limited in dealing with the wideband feedback signals. Modern wireless communication systems are requiring higher data rate and wider bandwidth, a more powerful linearization technique is required. In this paper, we propose a robust iterative...
