We introduce hybrid metamaterials consisting of split ring resonators and a graphene nanoribbon array. Electrostatic control of the graphene plasmon resonance provides dynamic control of the transmission of THz radiation with modulation depth of ∼50%.
We propose a nanophotonic waveguide modulator with bismuth ferrite as a tunable material. Due to near-zero losses in bismuth ferrite, modulation with up to 20 dB/μm extinction ratio and 12 μm propagation length is achieved.
