In this work we propose a measurement setup topology suitable for the automatic DC and low frequency noise (LFN) characterization of field effect transistors at wafer level. The system is composed of source and measure units (SMUs), by a custom-built low noise amplifier (LNA), and by a PC based spectrum analyzer. No bias filters and switch matrices are used, allowing fast switching between DC and...
An improved method of testing ADCs with a sine wave histogram is combined with an improved compression algorithm to accurately test the INL and DNL of ADCs. The accuracy of the compression algorithm is demonstrated with actual and simulated results. The role of THD and noise in the accuracy of the measurements is demonstrated. A previously reported method for reducing THD in an ac source is introduced...
This paper presents a novel stochastic model for the impulsive noise measured in the narrowband indoor Power Line Communication (PLC) environment. Based on extensive measurements carried out inside several buildings, the impulsive noise has been characterized and modelled for the low frequency range transmission over power lines. An appropriate method has been used to finely extract pulses and their...
The aim of this paper is to select the suitable excitation signal for a portable biomedical system based on the simulations of different signals while respecting the constraints on the system including excitation time, energy consumption, cost and ease of generation and at the same time guarantying the safety of the patient by limiting the current's magnitude. In order to get the optimum working point...
In this paper the numerical behavior of different sine wave fitting methods is investigated. In addition to the Three- and Four-Parameter Least Squares Fits, also the Maximum Likelihood and the Quantile Based Estimator methods suffer from similar numerical problems that may disturb the result of the ADC test. Suggestions are given in order to improve the performance of the investigated algorithms.
It is observed that the difference between a measurable value and a threshold does not involve a straightforward comparison of values, given that such measurement, which can only be an estimation, is expressed as an interval. Consequently, the value has to be considered to possess a clear degree of uncertainty. Such matters are highly relevant to the area of the measurement of relative levels of environmental...
This paper presents a low-cost wearable fitness monitoring device utilizing a 6-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) embedding 3-axis gyroscope and 3-axis accelerometer. The objective is to measure the angular value form by the feet with respect to the gravitational vector while walking in order to estimate the stride length. Kalman filter is employed for the sensor fusion technique and data conditioning.
In target tracking scenarios when multiple sensor platforms are present, there is the possibility that sensor registration will occur. If the problem is not properly compensated for, the combined target tracks will have a greater error as translation and rotation errors will be incorporated into the solution. In fact, some of the errors may result in some target tracks not being properly associated...
This paper describes a platform for measuring the multiple DC corona-generated effects, i.e. audible noise, ionized fields, ion current density and steady corona current simultaneously. The platform includes the corona cage for generating the corona discharge, the corresponding measuring equipment for each corona effect, and the acquisition and analysis system based on LabVIEW. The system can acquire...
A test setup and measurement methodology is presented for characterization of direct THz detectors to be used in imaging application. An active imaging setup is employed whereby the detector is illuminated by a dedicated continuous wave THz source and detector response is measured using a lock-in amplifier. The THz detector is accompanied by an on-chip antenna for the reception of THz waves and its...
