We demonstrate strong and robust fiber Bragg gratings in the first low-loss optical fiber made from photo-thermo-refractive (PTR) glass. A high grating strength of 20 dB is maintained even at 12 hour exposure to temperatures above 400 °C.
We report on a self-bleaching phenomenon observed in the Ce Yb co-doped silica fiber. The excess loss of the Ce/Yb fiber reduces about 1.5 dB/m at 633 nm after the pump laser was turned off for an hour; recovered about 10% of its pristine condition.
By utilizing a novel high-temperature measuring method, we investigated thermal profile of graphite filament for fiber fusion splicing. The experimental results indicate its excellent uniformity with less than 6.42% temperature fluctuation over 1.5mm diameter area.
