Recent research has illustrated privacy breaches that can be effected on an anonymized dataset by an attacker who has access to auxiliary information about the users. Most of these attack strategies rely on the uniqueness of specific aspects of the users' data - e.g., observing a mobile user at just a few points on the time-location space are sufficient to uniquely identify him/her from an anonymized...
This paper explores the structure of the time optimal trajectories for a rigid body in the unobstructed plane. The available controls for the system are the velocity and angular velocity of the body, in its own frame of reference. Controls are bounded by a closed convex polyhedron. The paper shows that the structure of the optimal trajectories may be completely described analytically.
We consider the problem of synthesizing optimal linear feedback policies subject to arbitrary convex constraints on the feedback matrix. This is known to be a hard problem in the usual formulations (ℋ2;ℋ∞;LQR) and previous works have focussed on characterizing classes of structural constraints that allow efficient solution through convex optimization or dynamic programming techniques. In this paper,...
This paper makes an attempt to explore the fundamental properties of distributed methods for minimizing a sum of objective functions with each component only known to a particular node, given a certain level of node knowledge and computation capacity. The information each node receives from its neighbors can be any nonlinear function of its neighbors' states as long as the function takes value zero...
Mobile sensing enabled by on-board GPS or smart phones has become the primary source of traffic data. For sufficient coverage of the traffic stream, it is important to maintain a reasonable penetration rate of probe vehicles. From the standpoint of estimating higher-order traffic quantities such as acceleration/deceleration, emission rate and fuel consumption rate, it is desirable to examine the effectiveness...
