Super-channels promise high-bandwidth transmission while decoupling channel capacity from baud rate. Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs) are optimal for delivering super-channels at over 100 Gb/s, with flexibility in modulation format, baud rate, dispersion tolerance, and reach.
The reflection at the optical connector in the high-power range was experimentally verified using Coherent-OTDR for the first time. The result shows less reflectivity at the connecter with black paint in a higher power range.
We fabricated an optical isolator in a GaInAsP waveguide integrated with SSCs by using a direct bonding technique. A maximum isolation ratio of 15.7 dB was obtained at a wavelength of 1558 nm.
We present all-optical signal processing techniques for fiber-optical communication using photonic integrated devices. We first report passive-optical discrete Fourier transform devices and applications. Optical bitwise-logic based signal processing using semiconductor optical amplifiers is also reviewed.
A low complexity 45 GS/s soft-decision optical front-end is demonstrated for low-density parity-check (LDPC) decoders. A net coding gain of 7.06 dB at 10−7 is experimentally achieved for 45 Gb/s NRZ-OOK optical signal.
The architecture of an optically addressed ultra-wideband (2–40 GHz) phased array, based on microwave photonic down-conversion techniques, is described. For such a phased array, the transmitter module consists of an ultra-wideband antenna, photodiode, and power amplifier. A metamaterial-loaded Vivaldi antenna having a tailored, broad, flat-top radiation pattern and a broad impedance bandwidth is presented...
