The primal-dual interior point method is developed for the generation and transmission loss problem minimization of the DC power flow hidrotermic system considering power reservation constraints in a subset of generating units. The resulting matrix structure is exploited aiming at an efficient implementation. Case studies are performed using the IEEE30, IEEE118 and brasilian power systems.
Small renewable distributed generation and plug-in electric cars are new trends on distribution networks which are increasing due to the necessity of providing an increasing amount of energy to match demand in a sustainable way and decrease oil dependence in transportation sector. Those new technologies are related because PEV increasing would facilitate renewable power penetration in distribution...
Developing countries are experimenting important advances in the field of international electrical interconnections, which have demonstrated that the barriers imposed by the differences between national market regulations, can be overcome through suitable trade agreements. The implementation of a regional electricity market superposed to national markets seems to be a good option to facilitate a coordinated...
The optimization problem in transmission system expansion planning (TSEP) is a mixed-integer nonlinear programming problem of combinatorial nature that leads to an extremely large number of alternative solutions for medium and large size electric power systems. Due to its complex characteristics, heuristic optimization has become an effective solver. In this paper, a novel heuristic optimization algorithm,...
Traditionally, due the high effort involved in the simulation of power systems electromechanical transients, this simulations is carried out the so-called phasor model approach. This approach considers de following main simplifications: equal distribution of loads among the phases, representation of elements by lumped and identical parameters in all phases, invariance of this elements with respect...
The value that electric companies assign to the reliability of their electric power supply is a key factor for efficient decision making, since it is a permanent task they face both in their operations and planning activities. This value depends on variables that are not easily observable; for this reason, the calculation of these costs strictly require the application of methodologies mainly built...
A location decision for a generation unit in a pre-liberalized monopoly energy market was made due to generation costs and transmission costs for electrical energy. A location decision in a liberalized energy market bases on location-dependent investment costs and generation costs without consideration of a location-dependent impact on transmission costs as long as no location signals for generation...
This paper presents a prospective approach on how load curves can be typified using the NCEA (National Classification of the Economic Activities) instrument and also based on energy measurement campaigns commonly carried out. The proposed method intends to obtain load curves sufficiently robust, despite the available measurements may not have statistical significance. The proposed hypotesis tries...
The network flow method is used in many areas and also in power system problems. The main application in power system is optimal power flow calculation, and this article presents three approaches complementing early developments: direct current optimal power flow, direct current optimal power flow with explicit losses and alternating current optimal power flow. We detail the mathematical formulation...
