We examine the hopping dynamics of an artificial spin ice system constructed from colloids on a kagome optical trap array where each trap has two possible states. By applying an external drive from an electric field which is analogous to a biasing applied magnetic field for real spin systems, we can create polarized states that obey the spin-ice rules of two spins in and one spin out at each vertex...
We present effective medium approximation (EMA) that provides an homogeneous equivalent for the top layer of on-chip interconnects in an integrated circuit. An empirical mixing model for straightforward and fast extraction of the effective dielectric constant of a slab of integrated circuit wiring and its analytical formulation based on Maxwell-Garnett rule is presented for a range of aspect ratios,...
This paper presents an advanced hybrid simulation technique to model the electromagnetic filed interactions between multi-transmitters and receivers in a complex closed environment; in which the method of moments/circuit method is used to accurately simulate the transceiver, and the long-distance electromagnetic field interaction is efficiently calculated by using the ray tracing technique based on...
Correct measurement of low frequency noise in a transistor requires prior knowledge of its s-parameters but the measurement of s-parameters at very low frequencies are difficult due to long time constants of the measurement setup and instabilities in the transistors. We report a method to stabilize and measure the s-parameters of GaAs heterojunction bipolar transistors (HBT) at frequencies as low...
This paper introduces an effective-media toolset that can be used for the design of metamaterial structures based on metallic components such as split-ring resonators and dipoles, as well as dielectric spherical resonators. For demonstration purposes the toolset will be used to generate infrared metamaterial designs, and the predicted performances will be verified with full-wave numerical simulations.
During ICEAA 2009, the authors explored the use of hybrid functional models to find failure modes of simple infrastructure models. Pulsed excitation was shown to effective in causing failures in simple oscillators and related simple models, using the energy of the circuit to bring about the failure. A simple SCADA system was used as a practical example of these failure models in infrastructure systems...
