A vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) comprising a polarization-selective chiral reflector was designed, fabricated, and tested. Stable, single-mode, circularly-polarized (CP) lasing oscillation was achieved, for the first time, in a VCSEL cavity.
We demonstrated over 100-nm RGB tunable laser operation (479-497, 515-546, 597-650 nm) using a single 9-cm Pr3+-doped ZBLAN fiber pumped by a GaN-LD. The optimized laser cavity at 635 nm realized slope efficiency of 0.69.
We will discuss extraordinary properties of a single-layer one-dimensional high contrast grating (HCG). Tunable HCG-VCSELs are fabricated with 8000 times size reduction in the tunable mirror size and 160 times improved tuning speed of 63 ns.
We report on the intracavity frequency-doubling of a GaInNAs/GaAs disk laser. The laser operated at 1220 nm and delivered 4.6 W of power at ~610 nm. The red emission was further frequency-doubled to 305 nm.
