A novel wrist conformal dual-band antenna structure is proposed for application in watch-type wireless devices. Simulation results show that this structure can achieve good performance in dual GSM bands and high efficiency when worn on hand. Based on this structure, a dual-element diversity antenna is also proposed. More research regarding this novel structure will be done in the future.
In this paper, two printed multiband fractal monopole antennas using the 1st and 2nd iteration of Minkowski Island geometry are proposed for WLAN communications. The monopole antennas have compact size of 28 times 18 mm2 and 21.5 times 18 mm2, respectively. The proposed antennas with different sizes of the ground plane have also been studied through numerical simulations in Ansoft HFSS. It is found...
A three port triple band aperture coupled microstrip antenna has been designed, manufactured and measured. Effective impedance matching has been achieved in desired bands of operation in good agreement with the simulated results.
This paper develops and applies a complete channel model for MIMO in aircraft that includes the effects of noise, interference and channel correlation. Clarke's, hyper-Rayleigh, IEEE TGn and an advanced ray-tracing model were used to predict the channel effects. Gaussian noise, thermal noise (at the transmitter and the receiver), non-Gaussian noise, and the aircraft system noise were included as well...
An X-band conformal array antenna designed for the use of unmanned aerial vehicles with polarimetric radars/sensors is presented. The array antennas mounted on the cylinder with various curvature radii are experimentally studied. The array can be easily placed on the aircraft fuselage or payload due to its ultra-thin and ultra-lightweight characteristics. It should have potential applications in radar...
In a communication satellite, multiple frequency bands are used for transmitting and receiving communication, data and tracking signals. In this paper we present design, analysis and test results of a dual-aperture coaxial multiband feed horn. The coaxial configuration is particularly useful for the frequency bands that are widely separated. Our design goal was to operate at S-, Ku-, K- and Ka- bands...
Increasing consumer demand for additional and more capable wireless and high-speed data services has led to many new wideband and multiband communications devices. Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna systems are one such technology that can increase data rates, provide robustness and reduce interference. However, mutual coupling issues can arise from having multiple antennas in compact and...
We present the idea of a simple frequency reconfigurable patch antenna that operates at multiband from 2 GHz to 4.5 GHz in this paper. By changing the position of the microstrip connecting elements on the antenna patches, the operating frequency will shift with fixed radiation patterns. Both simulated and measured results are provided and shown in good agreement.
Reconfigurable antennas have received much attention in the past years playing an important role in the design of smart and adaptive systems. They have been benefited from recent improvements in the performance of the existing switching technologies. In particular, integrating active devices such as MEMS switches or solid state switches in antennas and microwave circuits have been proved to be useful...
A new multiband antenna based on the traditional fractal equilateral Sierpinski monopole is presented in this paper. Sierpinski monopoles are resonant, log-periodic and multi-band antennas. For example, a traditional two-stage Sierpinski monopole provides three bandwidths. In this work, two of these bandwidths are increased adding four conductor triangles to a traditional two-stage Sierpinski monopole...
This paper presents the design of a multi-band, closed spaced Yagi antenna which consists of a folded driver and multiple helical-shaped directors. If one or more straight directors are added to the folded driver, more than one resonant frequency is observed. However, the maximum realized gain and the front-to-back ratio at each resonant frequency are not good because radiation from directors interfere...
An internal PIFA/slot antenna for quad-band mobile handset applications is presented. The quad-band operation for the bar-type mobile handset is obtained by the resonant modes of the slot antenna in conjunction with those of the PIFA. The proposed antenna has a compact size of 42 times 10 times 4 mm3. The quad-band operation includes GSM850 (824-894 MHz), GSM900 (880-960 MHz), DCS1800 (1710-1880 MHz),...
A novel tunable antenna is proposed to provide ultra-wide tunable range with a high selectivity. A reconfigurable matching network is implemented to achieve impedance matching at desired frequency of semi-ultra wideband (S-UWB) antennas, which can be designed in a straight forward manner. The L-C series matching network is chosen to demonstrate the performance by simulations. The simulation results...
In this paper, a new space diversity antenna for mobile phones has been proposed and fabricated. It consists of two symmetrical PIFA with a small step-ground in a compact space of the size of a mobile phone. To improve the isolation between the two diversity antennas, a slot on the center of the ground plane is adopted to cut off the conducted current between the two antennas. The diversity antenna...
A tri-band monopole antenna is presented, which employs metamaterial loading on a defected ground plane in order to create an antenna covering the WiFi and WiMAX bands. The measurements show monopolar-like radiation patterns at 3.50 GHz and 5.50 GHz and orthogonal dipolar-like patterns at 2.44 GHz. High radiation efficiencies are obtained in all three bands, despite the small size of the antenna,...
In conclusion, a novel planar PCB multiband antenna with parasitic element is proposed in this paper. Using only two simple radiating elements, the antenna operates with three separate resonant modes, covering six popular communication bands. The antenna area only occupies a small physical space (18 times 37 times 0.6 mm3). This simple planar PCB structure makes the antenna fabrication very cost effective...
Microstrip patch antennas with inset feed have been studied extensively over the past two decades because of its practical advantage when used in mobile wireless systems. The length of MPA, however, is comparable to a half wavelength with single resonant frequency and bandwidth around 2%. In this paper, we describe a novel approach to reduce the antenna size and provide multiband operation. Electromagnetic...
We have proposed and validated through simulations the possibility to interleave two pyramidal multi-band antennas. This new design enables to overcome bandwidth limitation problems as only one trap is now needed per radiating element on the radio navigation antenna. The feeding network is simplified as the two applications are now separated and polarizations can be defined independently for the two...
In this paper, we present a novel two monopole antenna for LTE band class 13 (746 MHz-787 MHz, for MIMO application) / GPS (at L1 band:1565 MHz-1585 MHz) / PCS (1810 MHz-1990 MHz) / UMTS(1920 MHz-2170 MHz) band operations. The proposed antennas are composed of two conventional monopole antennas and these antennas are connected by suspended line to reduce the mutual coupling between the antenna elements...
A triple-band unidirectional coplanar antenna is developed for WLAN/WiMax wireless applications. The triple-band planar antenna consists of a top-loaded dipole for the 2.4-GHz band, two longer dipoles for 3.5-GHz band, and 2 shorter dipoles for the 5-GHz band. The triple-band antenna is printed on a coplanar substrate. The antenna achieves a similar directional radiation pattern at all of the three...
