We have generated squeezed vacuum in optical telecommunication band by a single-pass parametric amplification in periodically poled lithium niobate. The measured noise reduction was 3.1 dB below the shot-noise level.
A fully integrated self-referenced Er-fiber frequency-comb system without the use of highly nonlinear or microstructured fiber is demonstrated. We use a single PPLN-waveguide for both spectral broadening and 2f-to-3f CEO-phase detection.
Second-order nonlinear-optical coefficients of undoped and MgO-doped near-stoichiometric LiNbO3 are measured at the fundamental wavelength of 1.31 mum. The values are found to be nearly same with those of congruent LiNbO3 within the experimental accuracy.
Active mode-locking of a near degenerate (~1064 nm) doubly resonant periodically poled LiNbO3 OPO pumped at 532 nm is reported. Pulse durations as short as 700 ps are observed.
Photorefractive properties of lithium niobate and tantalate are studied in infrared using whispering gallery mode resonators. Unusual dynamics in the resonator spectra with applied light is observed.
We report the light-assisted poling of controllable periodic and arbitrarily-shaped domain patterns in lithium niobate and lithium tantalate via the simultaneous application of a low uniform DC electric-field and sequence of ultrashort pulses (150-200 fs).
First experiments of proton exchange channel waveguides compatible with electric field surface periodic poling of congruent lithium niobate crystals are addressed. Picosecond nonlinear copropagating QPM-SHG measurements have been carried out on such structures.
We report the generation of polarization-entangled photon pairs at all telecom band using two PPLN waveguides in a fiber loop. The visibility is about 92% in our measurement. Phase is stable for the entangled state.
Several techniques for amplitude modulation and apodization of QPM interactions are proposed and demonstrated. Using these techniques, tuning curve side-lobes are suppressed 13-17 dB compared to that of a uniform grating.
We demonstrate tunable cascaded parametric oscillation in which the primary parametric oscillator signal internally pumps the secondary parametric oscillator. Above the secondary threshold we observe clamping of the primary signal, in accordance with theory.
We report optical parametric amplifiers using asymmetric Y-junctions, which launch the pump in a pure TM10 mode and separate the signal and idler in the TM10 and TM00 modes with 2 . d power contrast ratios.
We demonstrate THz-pulse shaping of ultimate flexibility, manipulating spatially dispersed multi-frequency components generated by optical rectification in a fanned-out PPLN. The modulated THz-spectrum maps out the spatial pattern of optical excitation beam on the crystal.
All-optical AND and NAND gates have been demonstrated in a Ti-diffused periodically poled LiNbO3 channel waveguide which has two second phase-matching peaks by cascaded sum frequency generation/difference frequency generation and sum frequency generation processes.
