In this paper, we proposed a novel design to further enhance impedance bandwidth by varying the shape of the open slot. The measured bandwidth of the proposed antenna defined by return loss >10 dB is about 130%, from 2.3 to 10.9 GHz. The proposed open slot antenna will be implemented, and the detail antenna design and experimental results are presented and discussed.
In this paper, the miniaturization of a printed circular disc monopole antenna is investigated. It is shown that by halving the original antenna and adjusting the coplanar ground plane width, an even wider impedance bandwidth at the lower end can be obtained. Furthermore, a clear physical explanation is provided to illustrate the mechanism of this type of half circular disc antenna.
The phenomenon of negative refraction in a Metamaterial wedge is known to be relatively narrowband. Here, we first experimentally estimate the negative refraction bandwidth of a Metamaterial wedge using a slab and a series of CW measurements. We subsequently measure the RF bandwidth of the Metamaterial wedge using a series of simple QPSK modulated signals. The measured RF bandwidth correlates well...
A proposed compact PIFA antenna with small dimension suitable for 4G handsets is presented. Overall volume of this antenna is significantly small with 0.741cm3 that makes it attractive for recent modern slim personal communication handhelds. This proposed antenna is attached with a varactor diode to archive tuning frequency property that makes antenna able to covering most popular frequency bands...
Measured results of three typical internal mobile phone antennas held in talk-position by a real human operator are presented. Depending on exact placement of index finger, frequency band and type/position of radiator, total body losses ranging from 6-26 dB have been measured. In all cases, the absorption loss was much more significant than the mismatch loss. The monopole (off-ground) antenna was...
A printed reflectarray antenna consists of a feed and a planar array of microstrip patches. The performances of whole antenna system obviously depend on the radiation pattern of the feed. In order to enhance the aperture efficiency, a saddle-shaped pattern of the feed is required. In this paper, a one-dimensional (1-D) pattern synthesis for feed is performed by employing a coupled tapered slot-line...
This paper reports the techniques applied in developing high performance UWB antennas with miniaturized size, reduced ground plane reliance, and enhanced diversity. The fundamental idea about the design with reduced ground plane reliance is first reviewed. Next, the miniaturized antenna design with less ground plane effect is introduced. Last, the antenna which features the small size, less ground...
